Why maintaining your car is important?
Maintaining your car properly is extremely necessary. Failing to maintain a car in good form results in many different problems, most of which lead to unnecessary and high expenses on various parts of it. On the other hand, spending some time and money on maintaining your car has many benefits, which includes saving a considerable amount of money on gas, unnecessary damages and repairs, helping your car last for a long time, etc. Maintaining your car might seem a lot of work to many, but actually it isn’t. In fact, it’s quite easy to learn and follow on a regular basis. You don’t need any full fledged mechanical qualities to properly maintain your car. You can easily learn a few necessary things from this article you need to know for maintaining your car in a proper way.
Things you need to follow
One of the first few things you need to do is buy a Chilton’s Manual. It has a lot of useful information which will help you a lot with many small and big things like small repairs, knowing and understanding the way your vehicle works and how to optimize its performance, when you should be changing the fluids, what to do when the car stops abruptly, troubleshooting, and a lot more. You can easily find this manual in any small local vehicle parts store or even online.
Here are some of the more important things you need to do follow on a timely basis as mentioned:
Weekly basis – You should do a weekly check of your car fluids. This includes a lot of things like transmission fluid, engine oil, radiator fluid, brake fluid, and even the windshield washer fluid. Except the last one, which is more important only in the winter season, all other fluids are rather vital for maintaining your car well. All of these fluids should be filled at least to their adequate levels. Also, if any of these fluids are discolored, chunky, etc. you should change them immediately.
Also, though not important in the rest of the year, the windshield washer fluid is as important as all the other fluids in the wintertime in order to melt off the ice on the windshield of your car.
Bi-weekly basis – These are some of the things you should do on a bi-weekly basis. One of the important things to do is checking your car’s tire pressure. For this, you need a tire pressure gauge, easily available at almost any gas station, or even an auto parts shop for a cheap price. Then all you need to do is simply remove the valve of each tire and join the pressure gauge to the valve. It will show you the level of air pressure present in your tires. Now, compare it with the level of air pressure the tires should have given in your car’s manual. Alternatively, you can also find it on the back of your front door. Now, if the air pressure is less, you should add it by visiting any gas station. It usually doesn’t costs more than about 50 cents to 1 dollar.
The importance of keeping your air pressure to the correct level
One of the biggest advantages of keeping the air pressure in your tires to the correct level is that it saves you a lot of gas and helps in avoiding major damages to the front parts of your car.
Following these simple but useful tips in a timely basis as mentioned will help you in maintaining your car well. However, the schedule for these things to follow also depends on how you drive the car. If you are a rough driver, and your journey involves travelling on uneven roads, you may want to do some of the above checks more frequently. On the other hand, if you only use your car occasionally, you don’t need to follow these tips as frequently as mentioned.
